Rev. Bishop Hannington Mutebi has called on student-athletes to embrace discipline and personal growth through sports as he officially opened the 2026 USSSA Ball Games I at Seroma Christian High School in Mukono.
Speaking as Chief Guest at the opening ceremony, Bishop Mutebi emphasized that participation in sports goes beyond competition, shaping character and life skills among learners.

“As we participate in sports, we learn many things like discipline, how to relate with others, confidence, and it offers personal growth. When we talk about physical sports, doctors emphasize that if you want to keep good health, make sure you exercise,” he said.
He further encouraged students to take advantage of school sports as a gateway to greater opportunities on the regional and global stage.
“A man’s gift makes room for him and brings him to sit with great men and women. For example, if you excel here, you go to Tanzania (FEASSA), then to Africa and later to the world,” he added.
The event was attended by key stakeholders in school sports, including the Commissioner for Physical Education in the Ministry of Education and Sports, Rev. Canon Duncan Mugumya, officials from the National Council of Sports, ASSHU President Hajjat Zulaika, and several head teachers.
In his remarks, Rev. Canon Mugumya reaffirmed the government’s commitment to school sports, noting that the Ball Games are officially recognized on the Ministry’s calendar.
“I want to inform you that this activity is officially in the Ministry of Education and Sports calendar, and to the officials, I encourage you to do the right thing at the right time and with the right intentions. When you do that, God in heaven will also be happy,” he said.
Seroma Christian High School Resident Director, Amelia Kyambadde, expressed appreciation to institutions that supported the hosting of the games by providing facilities, including Uganda Christian University (UCU), Our Lady of Africa, Seeta University, Seeta High School, and Hilton.
This year’s championship has attracted 6,558 athletes competing in 11 sports disciplines, marking a significant turnout as schools from across the country gather in Mukono for the multi-sport event.
