A Sunday service at Saint Peter’s Anglican Church in Winchester, Massachusetts, was briefly disrupted following an incident involving approximately ten individuals whose conduct caused concern among congregants during one of the main worship gatherings.
The situation, though momentarily unsettling, was handled with composure and pastoral calm under the leadership of Archbishop Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, who was present at the service. Church leaders acted swiftly to maintain order, and appropriate measures were taken to ensure the safety and well-being of all present, including engaging security authorities.
Despite the interruption, the service continued, reflecting the resilience and unity of the congregation. Worshipers remained composed, and the atmosphere of reverence was gradually restored as the service progressed.
The incident, while brief, highlighted the evolving challenges faced by places of worship, even beyond national borders. It also underscored the importance of steady leadership, discernment, and calm response in moments of tension.
Speaking after the service, Omumbejja Lucy Nkiinzi Grace, a Clinical Psychologist based in the United States, described the experience as both challenging and reflective.
“It was a moment that reminded us how important it is to remain grounded, united, and guided by wisdom, even in unexpected circumstances,” she noted.
The Church reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a safe and sacred space for worship, grounded in respect, dignity, and faith.
Members present expressed appreciation for the calm and steady leadership demonstrated, noting that the service ultimately concluded in a spirit of unity and reflection.
