Yoweri Museveni’s upcoming inauguration has taken on a spiritual tone after the government announced a nationwide three-day prayer programme aimed at fostering unity, peace, and stability across the country.
The prayers, organized under the guidance of the Office of the President, will run from May 8 to May 10, 2026, and will be held in mosques and churches across Uganda. According to officials, the initiative seeks to bring citizens together in reflection and prayer as the country prepares for the swearing-in ceremony scheduled for May 12 at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.
Permanent Secretary in the Office of the President, Yunus Kakande, outlined the programme, noting that prayers will begin in mosques on Friday, May 8, followed by Seventh-day Adventist churches on Saturday, May 9, and conclude with services in all churches on Sunday, May 10.
“During those prayers, different government dignitaries will represent the government in their respective areas,” Kakande said, emphasizing the inclusive nature of the exercise.
He underscored the importance of faith in national identity, citing Uganda’s motto, “For God and My Country,” as a guiding principle behind the initiative. Kakande added that the prayers will focus on seeking divine guidance, good health for the president, and continued peace and stability for the nation.
The official also referenced growing global uncertainty, pointing to regions such as the Middle East as examples of how quickly stability can be disrupted, reinforcing the need for national unity and prayer.
In addition to the spiritual preparations, the government has extended an open invitation to all Ugandans to attend the inauguration ceremony at Kololo, assuring the public that no invitation cards will be required.
“I also want to make all Ugandans come for the president’s inauguration ceremony. You do not need an invitation card. Just come,” Kakande said.
He revealed that extensive arrangements have been made to accommodate large crowds, including provisions for food and refreshments to ensure a welcoming environment for attendees.
Preparations for the event are already in high gear, with the Uganda People’s Defence Forces conducting rehearsals, including fighter jet drills expected to feature in a ceremonial fly-past on the inauguration day.
The ceremony is anticipated to attract dignitaries, officials, and citizens from across Uganda and beyond, marking a significant moment in the country’s political calendar.
