At least five journalists have been recognised for outstanding reporting on Uganda’s coffee sector.
Uganda remains Africa’s leading coffee exporter and one of the world’s top producers of Robusta, with export earnings surpassing $2.4 billion by late 2025. The sector supports about 1.7 million households and has registered steady growth, driven by improved farming practices and a gradual shift towards high-quality Arabica in high-altitude regions.
The awardees were drawn from television, radio, print, digital and social media platforms, reflecting a broad-based effort to amplify Uganda’s coffee story across audiences.
The awards ceremony, held over the weekend at Inspire Café in Kampala, followed months of structured tracking of media coverage after the 2025 Coffee Media Boot Camp at the Africa Coffee Park in Ntungamo.
The boot camp equipped journalists with in-depth knowledge of the coffee value chain, from production at the farm level to processing and final consumption, aimed at strengthening accurate, insightful and development-oriented reporting.
The 2026 awardees included Malcom Musiime (NTV Uganda), recognised for his consistent coverage of Uganda’s coffee value addition agenda; Patricia Osman (Capital FM), honoured for her authoritative reporting on radio; and Rogers Atukunda (SoftPower News), awarded for his in-depth written features on exports and regional market expansion.
Also recognised was Geoffrey Serugo (The Observer) for his comprehensive coverage of the Coffee Marathon 2025, which linked sport to awareness of the coffee sector. Kamazima Aine was honoured for her digital advocacy and consistent promotion of Ugandan coffee products across social media platforms.
Speaking at the event, Inspire Africa Group chief executive officer Dr Nelson Tugume outlined Uganda’s ambition to grow coffee export earnings from $2.4 billion to $10 billion by 2030, anchored on value addition, industrialisation and tourism.
The ceremony was officiated by Uganda Media Centre executive director Ofwono Opondo, who emphasised the media’s critical role in national development and urged journalists to sustain accurate and consistent reporting on key sectors such as coffee.
On behalf of the awardees, Malcom Musiime commended Inspire Africa Group for its collaboration with the media, noting that informed storytelling is essential in positioning Uganda as a global leader in coffee value addition.
