The routes for the upcoming Olympic Day TOOKE Run were officially unveiled recently ahead of the highly anticipated event scheduled for 20th June in Bushenyi District.
The run will feature three race categories designed to encourage participation from professional athletes, fitness enthusiasts, students, families, and the wider community: 21KM, 10KM, 5KM.

“Today’s well-nourished child is tomorrow’s champion,” she noted while highlighting the role of nutrition in athletic performance, child development, and national transformation.Held under the theme “Move, Learn, Discover with Nutrition-Care,”
The Olympic Day TOOKE Run seeks to promote active lifestyles, nutrition awareness, and the consumption of affordable, nutritious local food products, including TOOKE flour and other value-added green banana products.
Organizers noted that the different race categories were carefully designed to ensure inclusivity and broad community participation, allowing people of all ages and fitness levels to take part in the celebration of health, sports, and wellness.
The event is expected to attract athletes, schools, corporate organizations, health advocates, and members of the public from across Uganda.

BIRDC and UOC are aligned with a theme seeking to move through sport, health and community engagement while embracing science and innovation in nutrition to help discover the power of Uganda’s resources that can fuel athletes and nurture children and communities.
What is PIBID/BIRDC?
The PIBID (Presidential Initiative on Banana Industrial Development) is a Ugandan government project that was established to add commercial value to the country’s highland bananas (matooke). It has since transitioned into the BIRDC (Banana Industrial Research and Development Centre) to fully commercialize these innovations.
The project aims to transform raw matooke into premium, shelf-stable, and gluten-free food products.
