During a news conference at the newly opened PLU national chairman Gen MK’s offices in Nakasero, a journalist accused the Patriotic League of Uganda of double standards and not being very consistent in their fight against corruption.
The journalist wondered why the PLU’s David Kabanda, who represented Gen MK at the media event, was appearing to be very tough while discussing Anita Among-related corruption, while tolerating Igara MP Michael Mawanda who flanked him as he addressed reporters.
The journalist demanded to know why Mawanda continued to serve as a member of PLU’s Central Executive Committee after being indicted over the cooperatives billions corruption scandal. Kabanda calmly explained that this is a matter he had personally discussed with Gen MK.
He said the CDF had made it clear that the day Mawanda, who is currently simply a suspect out on bail, is found guilty and convicted by a court of competent jurisdiction is when his membership to the PLU CEC will come to an end and that the same will be immediate.
Kabanda added that even in the case of Anita Among, PLU is aware that she remains a mere suspect whose guilt can only be established once she has been tried and convicted by a court of competent jurisdiction.
