President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni graciously hosted the Muslim community for an Iftar dinner at State House-Entebbe on Wednesday. During the event, President Museveni extended his congratulations to the Muslim faithful for their perseverance during the Ramadan season.
Addressing the gathering, President Museveni expressed admiration for the similarities between the Quran and the Bible, noting their profound messages. He emphasized the importance of economic empowerment within religious teachings and commended the efforts of religious groups in promoting prosperity among their followers.
Reflecting on his own initiatives, President Museveni highlighted his commitment to uplifting Ugandans from poverty through wealth creation programs. He cited successful examples from his own endeavors, such as in Kawumu-Makulubita and Kisozi, where communities have thrived economically over the years.
Encouraging leaders to prioritize economic diversity, President Museveni urged the embrace of agriculture, manufacturing, services, and ICT sectors to combat poverty effectively.
Additionally, he cautioned against the divisive practice of land inheritance, advocating for equitable sharing among heirs.
Addressing concerns about riba in the Parish Development Model (PDM), President Museveni pledged to convene experts to address the issue while reaffirming his commitment to inclusivity, including the adoption of Islamic banking.
In response, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubajje, Mufti of Uganda, expressed gratitude to President Museveni for his annual hosting of the Iftar dinner and praised his leadership in various sectors, including public health and education. He lauded the President’s non-sectarian approach, which has fostered national development and unity.
Lastly, Sheikh Mubajje urged for economic empowerment in Muslim regions and reiterated the community’s support in combating terrorism.
The event, graced by ministers, diplomats, parliamentarians, and Muslim leaders, underscored the importance of solidarity and collaboration in promoting prosperity and peace.
