NUP Drags Government to Court Over IPOD Money

KAMPALA– The National Unity platform (NUP) party has dragged the government to the High court civil division challenging the decision of Hon. Nobert Mao, the justice and constitutional affairs minister, excluding the party from receiving statutory political party funding.

The party through its secretary general David Lewis Rubongoya ubongoya has filed an application for judicial review challenging this directive from the minister.

Last month Mao issued a directive to the electoral commission to only disburse funds to six political parties, excluding NUP on account that they were not recognized members of IPOD.

NUP seeks a declaration that the minister’s directive was illegal. Irrational and procedurally improper because it contravene section 14 of the political parties and Organizations Act.

The court has instructed the parties to file written submissions before the matter comes up on the 10th next month for mention.
