The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Presidential Candidate, General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, made a triumphant entry into the West Nile sub-region as he kicked off his presidential campaigns with a major rally at Omach Primary School playgrounds in Pakwach District.

Addressing a large gathering, General Museveni urged the people of Pakwach to become ambassadors of peace, reminding them of the devastating impact past conflicts had on the region conflicts that forced many into exile until the NRM government restored peace and stability, enabling their return home.

Museveni called on the electorate to safeguard the achievements made under the NRM government including peace, improved infrastructure, wealth creation, and socioeconomic empowerment by voting to retain the party in power.

Highlighting key developments, the NRM candidate pointed to the construction of major economic infrastructure such as roads and improved social services, which have unlocked West Nile’s development potential and enhanced its competitiveness.

General Museveni also responded to concerns about fisheries in the area, revealing plans to appoint an elders’ committee in Pakwach District to oversee fishing activities and ensure adherence to sustainable fishing practices. This move follows complaints from local leaders seeking reforms in fisheries operations on the region’s water bodies.

He cautioned communities living along lakes against the use of substandard fishing gear, which has led to a depletion of mature fish stocks, and emphasized the need for dialogue with indigenous groups to build consensus on sustainable fisheries management.

In addition, Museveni promised to initiate a special committee to investigate an ongoing land dispute between the Jolam community of the Alur and the Acholi community in Pakwach District, with the aim of fostering lasting resolution and harmony.

The rally marked the start of General Museveni’s campaign trail across West Nile as he seeks another term in office under the NRM banner.
