The Uganda Men’s U20 national football team, the Uganda Hippos, is gearing up for a pivotal clash as they aim to secure a spot in the final of the ongoing football tournament at the African Games in Ghana.

Under the leadership of coach Morley Byekwaso, the Hippos emerged as the standout team in Group A, boasting a flawless record with nine points to their name.

Their journey in the tournament has been marked by impressive victories, including a 2-1 win against Nigeria, a narrow 1-0 triumph over Senegal, and another hard-fought 1-0 victory against South Sudan.

Usama Arafat and Ivan Irinimbabazi (against Nigeria), Allan Oyirwoth (against Senegal) and Apollo Kagogwe (against South Sudan have scored Uganda’s four goals at the tournament respectively.

As they prepare to face Congo in the semifinals, the Hippos are well aware of the challenge that awaits them. Congo, who finished second in their group with five points, pose a formidable threat and are determined to cause an upset.

The Hippos’ quest for glory holds historical significance, with their best performance at the African Games dating back to 1999 when they secured a fourth-place finish having lost the semifinals against Cameroon in Johannesburg, South Africa.
