Immaculate Nakisuyi stole the show on Sunday as the Victoria Pearls beat Rwanda by 30 runs in their final Group B game at the African Games in Ghana to set up a date with South Africa in the semifinals.
Nakisuyi anchored the Ugandan innings from the very start, scoring an unbeaten 57 off 56 balls. The all-rounder at a striker rate of 101.75 slogged eight boundaries enroute to her half century, and enroute to Uganda’s total of 106/2.
The batting card did not feature Janet Mbabazi. Mbabazi has in this tournament come in two down, but was dropped down the order, and since Uganda used only four batters, wasn’t introduced.
Gloria Obukor and Stephanie Nampiina though, gave Nakisuyi the needed support. The former who opened returned 21 while the latter recorded 15.
After her impressive show with the bat, Nakisuyi transferred her desire to bowling. The 28-year-old inked four dismissals that included Rwanda skipper, Marie Diane Bimenyimana (28) and Belise Murekatete (10) two of Rwanda’a top scorers.
It was a no brainer when she walked away with the Player of the Match award.
Team captain Consy Aweko picked three wickets while Mbabazi bundled out one, but with only 8 runs conceded, Lorna Anyait recorded the lowest economy of 2.00.
The spinning teenager drew the most dots (19), as the Victoria Pearls defended their score.
Uganda will now face South Africa who topped Group A in the semifinals on Monday as their hopes of a medal continue.
Zimbabwe, winners of Group B will face Nigeria.
