Police overcame stubborn Booma at the Kavumba Recreation grounds to open up a five-points gap at the top of the Betpawa Big League table.

In the 2-1 win for the table leaders, Isaac Ogwang put the hosts ahead after just six minutes played at Kavumba, as he converted from the spot after a foul on Denis Kalanzi.

In the 25th minute, Dickson Niwamanya scored for the visitors to draw the game level.

The Cops were forced into early substitution in the first half as goal scorer Ogwang got off injured in the 40th minute, to be replaced by Herman Wasswa.

Just ten minutes after returning for the second half, Wasswa scored from close range to double the home side’s advantage.

The Cops, who have also lost only once and drawn seven times so far this season have now gone to 40 points after 19 games.

Lugazi, in second position have 35 points after 18 games, same as the third-placed team that also has 35 points after playing their 20th game.
