The passing of Emmanuel Karasi, former speaker of Bushenyi district, has stirred profound sadness among residents and political figures, prompting tributes to pour in for the departed leader.
At the age of 58, Karasi had withdrawn from active political engagements prior to his demise, leaving behind a legacy marked by his contributions to the community.
Having served as a representative of Central division in the district council from 2011 to 2016, Karasi ascended to the position of Bushenyi district speaker, demonstrating his commitment to public service.
Despite a setback in the 2015 Bushenyi-Ishaka municipality mayoral primaries, where he was defeated by Richard Byaruhanga, Karasi remained dedicated to his role in governance and community development.

Confirmation of Karasi’s passing came from his close friend, Rev. Ben Jackson Bitungirwe, who shared the news with profound sorrow on Saturday.
According to Karasi’s widow, Rose Nambuya, the late leader had been grappling with health challenges, including diabetes and meningitis, prior to his demise.
Residing in Nyabikyerere cell, Central division, Bushenyi Ishaka municipality, Karasi spent his final days under medical care at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, where he eventually passed away.
Mary Karooro Okurut, former Bushenyi district Woman MP and currently serving as senior presidential advisor on public relations, paid homage to Karasi’s dedication and industriousness in serving the government, acknowledging his pivotal role in advancing the district’s development agenda.
Jaffari Bassajjabalaba, the incumbent Bushenyi LC5 chairperson, expressed shock and sorrow over Karasi’s death, announcing plans for a special council sitting to commemorate the late leader’s contributions.
Reflecting on Karasi’s tenure as district speaker, Bassajjabalaba highlighted his proactive approach in overseeing various district programs, including infrastructure projects, educational initiatives, and healthcare services, along with his adept leadership during council sessions.
