In a thrilling matchup at the YMCA court in Wandegeya, Caesar Kizito’s late-game heroics propelled the KCCA Panthers to a stunning comeback victory over the UCU Canons in the National Basketball League.

The UCU Canons seemed poised for a comfortable win as they held a commanding 55-42 lead at the end of the third quarter.

However, Kizito had other plans, scoring three crucial three-pointers in the final moments of the game to help KCCA erase the deficit and march on to a 69-65 victory.

Despite UCU’s strong start, they faltered down the stretch, making some poor decisions that allowed KCCA to claw their way back into the game.

With seconds remaining and trailing by just two points, UCU had an opportunity to tie the score, but Marvin Jesse Okurut’s corner three-point attempt rimmed out.

Kizito led the charge for KCCA with 17 points, while Emmanuel Odongkara (12), Stephen Otoa (11) and Emmanuel Okumu (10) also contributed with double-digit scoring performances.

For the UCU Canons, Abraham Isyagi and Jerry Kayanga put up valiant efforts with 18 points each, but it wasn’t enough to secure the win.

The ever reliable Peter Sifuma struggled with slippery hands, finishing with just six points despite grabbing an impressive 17 rebounds.

One glaring difference between the two teams was the performance of their benches, with KCCA’s bench contributing 29 points compared to UCU’s mere 5.

Additionally, the Canons’ 23 turnovers proved costly in the end.

This defeat marks the second loss of the season for the UCU Canons, who previously fell to the KIU Titans. However, they have managed victories against the Kampala Rockets, Power, and JT Jaguars.

On the other hand, KCCA Panthers have now notched their fifth win of the season, including four consecutive victories. Despite three defeats, the team’s strong performance signals vast improvement under new coach Raymond ‘Shaggy’ Muhumuza.
