Five individuals have been formally charged and remanded to Luzira Prison in connection with the murder of Daniel Bbosa, the Ndiga clan head of Buganda Kingdom. Bbosa was fatally shot on February 25, 2024, outside his residence in Lungujja, Rubaga Division, Kampala, by assailants riding a motorcycle.

The suspects, Noah Lujja (21), Harriet Nakiguli (40), Joseph Nakabale (47), Ezra Mayanja (44), and Milly Naluwenda (46), made their appearance before the Mwanga II Magistrate’s Court in Mengo, Kampala, on Monday. They were charged with murder under Sections 188 and 189 of the Penal Code.

Due to the severity of the charges, the accused were not permitted to enter pleas. The court emphasized that as a capital offense, the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court. The hearing was adjourned to April 11 for mention.

Prosecution, led by Ms. Caroline Mpumwire, alleges that on February 25, 2024, at Kikandwa, Lungujja, Rubaga Division, the group, along with others still at large, unlawfully caused the death of engineer Daniel Bbosa with malice aforethought.

Initial police investigations suggested that Noah Lujja Tabula, who is currently evading capture, collaborated with Milly Naluwenda, a clerk in the Buganda Kingdom’s Tradition Court, to hire the assailants who carried out Bbosa’s murder. The incident occurred near Bbosa’s residence in Kikandwa zone, Lungujja Parish.

Residents, led by Mr. Abdul Katabaazi, intervened when the assailants were pursued and apprehended. One of the attackers, identified as Enock Sserunkuma, was lynched by the mob, while Noah Lujja was spared after being interrogated for information regarding those who contracted them for the crime.

Noah Lujja, who sustained injuries during the altercation, has been undergoing treatment at Mulago Hospital. He has since provided vital information leading to the arrest of six additional suspects, including Milly Naluwenda, apprehended on Thursday night.

Police suspect that the motive behind Daniel Bbosa’s murder could be linked to a cultural seat conflict dating back 487 years. Investigations into the matter continue as legal proceedings progress.
