Decomposing body discovered in Priest’s house in Kabale

A highly decomposing body of the unidentified man was found in the priest’s house on Sunday morning.

The victim was found hanging on a rope in the house under construction belonging to Rev. Fr. Austin Christmas of the catholic church Priest of Kyanamira.

Foul smell emanating from the house alerted the passerby young boy who went to check what was smelling only to discover a rotting body of an unknown person in a ceiling.

“Upon climbing at the ceiling, he found the said decomposing dead body hanging on the rope, there after informed the catechist who also informed the LC II and police was accordingly notified,” police reported.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the odour had been noticed previously (on Marchb5) by the priest who also ordered the resident catechist, Silvano Karemire to make a search of what could have died in the building something he did not do.

“That, the said catechest never bothered until to day the 10/03/2024, at around 0700hrs, when a young boy whose passing near by had the smell and insisted to go inside to see what was smelling,” said ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesperson.

Report of a decomposing body discovered in the area was filed to police by Edward Orikiriiza, the LC II chairperson of Kyanamira parish on March 10 at 0900hrs.

ASP Maate said; “Scene was visited, examined and documented. The decomposing body was removed from the rope and conveyed to Kabale Regional referral hospital mortuary for postmortem.”

Police alleged the incident as suspected suicide meanwhile as inquiries are still on going to establish the actual cause of death, identify the deceased relatives to give police his true particulars. Maate appealed to the public who maybe having a missing person to visit the hospital mortuary so that he is identified and taken for a descent burial.
