Buganda Kingdom’s Ndiga clan introduced Eria Luggya Lwasi Buzaabo as its new leader in a significant cultural ceremony held in Kampala, succeeding the late Daniel Bbosa. Bbosa tragically lost his life to assailants in a targeted attack on February 25 in Kampala. This unveiling of a new leader comes as a necessary step before the burial of Bbosa, as per Buganda’s cultural traditions.

Eria Luggya Lwasi Buzaabo, the newly appointed clan head, previously served as the clan premier (Katikkiro) under the leadership of the late Daniel Bbosa. The Buganda Kingdom adheres strictly to cultural norms, one of which dictates that a burial cannot proceed until the appointment of a successor is made. Consequently, Bbosa’s funeral arrangements have been delayed until Sunday, when he will be laid to rest in Mbale – Mawokota, located in Mpigi District.

Buganda Kingdom’s Prime Minister, Peter Mayiga, addressed the media during Lwasi’s official unveiling at Bulange Mengo. Mayiga emphasized that the delay in burial arrangements was a result of adherence to cultural customs. He elaborated on the customary procedure, which involves informing the Buganda King (Kabaka) Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II of the clan leader’s passing. Subsequently, the Kabaka tasks the Katikkiro with overseeing the appointment of the successor, ensuring alignment with the specific traditions of the clan.

Mayiga underscored the importance of respecting and following the diverse cultural practices of all clans within the Buganda Kingdom. Each clan has its unique customs regarding the selection and appointment of leaders, and adherence to these traditions is deemed essential.

Eria Luggya Lwasi Buzaabo traces his lineage to the late Ezekeri Luggya Lwasi and Miriam Nabawanuka from Mpigi Mawokota. He is an ICT engineer by profession, married, and a father. His appointment as the Ndiga clan leader marks a significant responsibility and acknowledgment of his family heritage within the Buganda Kingdom.

In light of the unfortunate circumstances surrounding Daniel Bbosa’s death, Prime Minister Mayiga urged the government to ensure that the suspect receives necessary medical treatment to recover. Additionally, Mayiga emphasized the importance of uncovering the motive behind the assassination. According to Police spokesperson Fred Enanga, the assailants ambushed Bbosa along the road, firing three fatal shots at him as he passed by in his vehicle.
