Preview: Express Target Wakiso Scalp

Express will be aiming for their maiden victory under new coach Baker Mbowa as they host Wakiso Giants at Wankulukuku.

The Red Eagles suffered a 1-0 defeat to rivals SC Villa in their previous outing, with Charles Lwanga netting the decisive goal.

Despite the loss, Mbowa may have gleaned some positives as his team remained competitive and displayed promising attacking play, particularly through John Assiimwe, although they lacked a cutting edge upfront with Isaac Wagoina faltering.

Express continues to grapple with financial difficulties which led to the departure of coach Alex Isabirye, with players enduring three months without payment.

Wakiso Giants, currently fifth from bottom, come into the match reeling from a 4-0 thrashing by Vipers, a game marred by controversy as Wakiso opted to host it at Vipers’ home ground.

The club has suffered three consecutive defeats, including an exit from the Uganda Cup at the hands of Pakwach Young Stars and a loss to league leaders Kitara.

Notably, Wakiso Giants have managed just one goal in their last five league fixtures, scored by Kenneth Kimera in their solitary 1-0 victory over URA FC.

The previous encounter between these sides in the first round ended in a goalless draw at Wakissha.
