An unconfirmed fire has destroyed property worth millions of shillings in the Nile Open space market in Njeru municipality in Buikwe district late last night.
The fire started around 10 p.m. Some of the traders in the market said they received the shocking news in the morning and rushed to the scene to save their goods but when they arrived everything was destroyed.
The chairman of the market Mr. Moses Nsubuga Mukuye said although many said the fire could have been caused by electricity, there was also speculation that there might have been thieves who wanted to take revenge for their neighbor who was caught stealing and severely beaten yesterday.
He said the house where the fire started had no electricity.
