France ambassador promises sh12 trillion in support after meeting Jeje Odongo

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | France has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to investing significantly in Uganda’s socio-economic development. The commitment was made Tuesday when Minister of Foreign Affairs Gen. Odongo Jeje Abubakher hosted a meeting in Kampala with Xavier Sticker, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of France to the Republic of Uganda.

Ambassador Sticker said France intends to invest a substantial sum of $3 billion, equivalent to 12 trillion UGX, in Uganda over the next three years. These investments will be strategically allocated across key sectors, including but not limited to agriculture and oil and gas, with the aim of fostering sustainable growth and prosperity in Uganda.

During the meeting, both parties underscored the shared commitment of both nations to further strengthen ties across various sectors of mutual interest.

“The Government of Uganda expresses its sincere gratitude to the Republic of France for its generous investment commitment, which reflects the deep-rooted friendship and partnership between the two nations. This significant contribution will undoubtedly contribute to Uganda’s efforts to achieve its development goals and improve the well-being of its citizens,” said Gen. Odongo.

Earlier, Gen Odongo met Monzer Selim, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Uganda.

Monzer Selim extended heartfelt congratulations to Uganda for the successful hosting of three significant summits, namely the IGAD, NAM, and G77, held consecutively in January 2024. This remarkable feat underscores Uganda’s
commitment to regional and international cooperation and its role as a beacon of stability and progress in the African continent.
