At least 68 participants drawn from football academies and youth football structures across the country have completed specialised technical training at the Fufa Technical Centre in Njeru, Jinja district.
The three courses were conducted by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (Fufa) under its Technical Master Plan in partnership with the FIFA Talent Development Scheme.
The training, which started on June 2 and concluded on June 7, focused on youth coaching, youth conditioning and youth goalkeeping coaching.
According to Fufa director of communications Ahmed Hussein, 35 participants enrolled in the youth coaching course, 20 in the youth conditioning course and 13 in the youth goalkeeping coaching course. Of the total participants, 64 were male and four female.
The courses were facilitated by experienced football instructors, with Bashir Mutyaba and Ben Mwesigwa leading the youth coaching programme, Félix Ayobo handling youth conditioning, and Ibrahim Mugisha conducting the youth goalkeeping coaching course.
Hussein said the training is part of Fufa’s efforts to professionalise youth football development and strengthen technical capacity within football academies. He noted that all registered football academies are required to have at least one certified technical staff member in youth coaching, youth goalkeeping coaching and youth conditioning.
The requirement applies to academies participating in Fufa youth competitions, including the Fufa Juniors League, Fufa Schools of Excellence and the Fufa Academies League.
According to Hussein, only coaches who have successfully completed the relevant training and certification are permitted to conduct training sessions and manage teams in these competitions.
“The specialised courses are conducted on a 40-hour full-time residential basis and are designed to equip participants with the knowledge and practical skills required to support the development of young footballers in line with national and international standards,” he said.
The training forms part of Fufa’s broader strategy to strengthen the foundation of youth football development across the country. The federation considers coach education a critical investment in producing technically proficient players capable of competing at the highest levels of the game.
