I will always seek advice of my predecessor, says new police spokesperson

The newly appointed police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Kituuma Rusoke has said being a novice in the job, he will on several occasions seek the advice and guidance of his predecessor, Senior Commissioner of Police, Fred Enanga.

Giving his inaugural address to the media on Monday, Rusoke applauded Enanga for the great job he has done by speaking for the police, noting that this will always guide him in the new position.

“I appreciate my predecessor for his remarkable contribution and dedication to the press and public relations office and in his parting shots, he urged me to act with integrity, respect and compassion. I pledge to hold to those values. I also pledge to tap into his experience. I pledge to seek advice from him to help me do my work,” Rusoke said.

Enanga, who has served as police spokesperson for at least five years was last week elevated to a deputy director and sent to Interpol as Kituuma Rusoke was appointed to replace him.

For the last five years as police spokesperson, Enanga has been credited for his calm demeanor that enabled him to defend police , even against the “undefendable”.

He has been loathed and loved in equal measures by government officials, the public and the opposition.

Speaking on Monday , Enanga’s successor pledged to tap into this expertise to help him steer the new office.

He however applauded the Inspector General of Police, Abbas Byakagaba for entrusting him with the new position.

“This responsibility is an illustration of trust and opportunity to grow along my career path. I am cognizant of the huge task ahead of me but I pledge to commit my effort and expertise to the expectation of the IGP, Police and the people of the republic of Uganda,”Rusoke said.

He also has a message to the media.

“I pledge unwavering partnership with fourth estate which plays vital role in empowerment of citizens .I have an open door policy to work together to move things forward.”
