JKL Lady Dolphins asserted their dominance in the first round of the National Basketball League, clinching the top spot in the standings with a convincing 72-58 victory over the JT Lady Jaguars at Lugogo on Friday.

Despite trailing 21-15 after the first quarter, JKL staged a remarkable comeback to seize a commanding 40-28 lead at halftime.

The absence of star player Sarah Ageno seemed to hinder the JT Ladies, who struggled to contain the relentless onslaught from JKL thereafter.

Evelyn Nakiyinji led the scoring with a game-high 14 points, supported by Hope Akello’s impressive double-double of 11 points and 13 rebounds, along with Flavia Oketcho’s contribution of 11 points.

On the opposing side, Sandra Ayikoru and Brenda Kayaga were the only players to reach double digits, each scoring 12 points for JT.

Despite the efforts of Annet and Mercy Batamuliza, who secured 14 and 11 rebounds respectively, JT couldn’t muster enough firepower to overcome JKL’s surge.

With this victory, the defending champions JKL conclude the first round atop the standings with an impressive record of 10 wins and just one loss, suffered against KIU Rangers.

Following closely behind are KCCA Leopards, UCU Lady Canons, and KIU Rangers, all with a joint record of 9-2.

JT Lady Jaguars settle for fifth place, having secured seven wins and suffered four losses.

The stage is now set for the second round, scheduled to kick off on April 19.

The Men’s division will conclude on Sunday.
