JKL Lady Dolphins needed a strong last quarter to shrug off UPDF Lady Tomahawks resistance in a National Basketball League matchup at Lugogo.
UPDF initially led 19-17 after the first quarter and remained competitive throughout the game.
Even when they fell behind by six points, 44-50, after the third quarter, they looked within touching distance.
But JKL came back strong in the fourth quarter, outscoring UPDF by 11 points to clinch the victory.
Notable performances included Becky Longom’s impressive double-double of 16 points and 14 rebounds, Hope Akello’s double-double of 12 points and 16 rebounds, and Brenda Ekone’s 16 points for JKL.
Christine Namyalo and Sandra Assiimwe contributed 12 and 11 points respectively for UPDF, who returned to play after a 30-day break.
UPDF concluded the first round with a 4-7 record, while defending champions JKL secured their ninth win out of 10 games. JKL will face JT Lady Jaguars in their final first-round game on Friday.
