The Permanent Secretary/Secretary to the Judiciary, Pius Bigirimana, received a generous donation of 90 vehicles from the Ministry of Works in preparation for the upcoming two-day Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Summit at Mestil Hotel, Kampala. This significant contribution aims to facilitate the transportation of foreign Chief Justices and Justices attending the summit, scheduled for March 6, 2024.
Bageya Waiswa, the Permanent Secretary of the works ministry, formally handed over the vehicles, specifically Maxus station wagons, to the Judiciary on March 1, 2024. This gesture underscores the commitment of both the works ministry and the Judiciary to ensure the success and smooth operation of the ADR Summit.
Expressing gratitude for the cooperation extended by the works ministry, Bigirimana underscored the importance of the vehicles in accommodating the transportation needs of esteemed delegates during the international summit. He further acknowledged the support of Lucy Nakyobe, the Head of Public Service and Secretary to the Cabinet, in authorizing the use of these vehicles for the summit.
Highlighting the significance of the ADR mechanisms, including Mediation, Plea Bargaining, and Small Claims Procedures, Bigirimana emphasized their pivotal role in resolving societal conflicts and addressing the issue of case backlog within the judiciary. He noted that these mechanisms, aligned with President Yoweri Museveni’s emphasis on mediation over litigation, reflect the judiciary’s commitment to efficient dispute resolution.
