Rwanda’s President, Paul Kagame, welcomed members of the Ntare School Old Boys Association (NSOBA) with an evening cocktail reception on Friday in Kigali. The event, held at the Kigali Convention Centre, was a gesture of honor for the alumni who were gathered in Kigali for a grand reunion.

Among the distinguished guests were former head teachers of Ntare School, including Jimmy Turyagyennda, Eliab Leynon Gumisiriza, and Canon Stephen Kamuhanda. The event provided an opportunity for President Kagame to interact with attendees, including Samuel Mugisha, his former teacher at Ntare School, and Apollo Kashanku, the chairman of NSOBA, as well as the current Ntare School Headmaster, Saul Rwampororo.

President Kagame’s association with Ntare School holds significance as both he and President Yoweri Museveni are former students and patrons of the school, situated in Mbarara municipality. Kagame attended Ntare School from 1972 to 1976, while Museveni was enrolled in the 1960s.

In a statement shared on social media by NSOBA, gratitude was expressed for President Kagame’s warm hospitality, acknowledging his generosity in hosting the event and making their time in Rwanda memorable. The occasion was further enriched by the presence of over 500 Old Boys who arrived in Kigali earlier in the week for various activities, including the finals of the Ntare Lions League (NLL) football tournament.

The gathering in Kigali signifies a significant milestone for NSOBA, bringing together former students from Rwanda and Uganda for a weekend of sports and cultural exchange. Notably, this year’s NLL finals were held outside Uganda for the first time, underscoring the expanding reach and influence of Ntare School alumni. Additionally, plans are underway for the opening of Ntare School in Rwanda, with contributions towards construction made by both President Museveni and President Kagame.

The event not only celebrated the shared history and camaraderie among Ntare School alumni but also heralded a promising future for the institution, marked by collaboration and unity across borders.
