Mzee Bukenya displays proof of ownership of the contested land

Mzee Erismus Bukenya of Kamira Subcounty, Bamunanika County-Luwero District has appealed to President Yoweri Museveni to reign in as land grabbers continue to threaten his life as well as destroying his property worth millions of money.

Mzee Bukenya has revealed that the land grabbers led by a one Muhammad Musanje have continuously attacked his farm attendants beating them to nearly death, slaughtered his animals and destroyed his plantations on the watch of the area police with no help.

Bukenya narrates that in the year 2000, he bought 590acres of land on Plot number 03, Block 490 from the Non-Performing Asset Recovery Trust a sum of Shs5m having been the highest bidder.

“I settled into the land and set up a number of projects; everything was going on well until 2018 when a one Muhammed Musanje appeared claiming ownership of the land that his grandparents had never mortgaged the said land,” Bukenya narrated.

Bukenya said that Musanje went ahead and took him to courts of law but later withdrew the case against.

“In the turn of event, Musanje came back in 2020 making the same claims this time round with a land title on the same land. Again, he withdrew the case on September 13th, 2023,” Bukenya revealed.

Bukenya noted that despite withdrawal of court cases, Musanje has continued to launch attacks to his farmers on the farm, killing his animals.

He claimed that Musanje has worked with the area police as well as the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) to label cases of possession of fire arms to his farm managers and his child as well as taking no interest in his case.

“I have moved to almost all offices in the district and even in Kampala but I have failed to get any help; I believe its now President Museveni that can help me settle on my land that I acquired legally,” Bukenya appealed.

One of Mzee Bukenya’s children Peninah Nalubega noted that they are living in fear since the attackers have consistently warned of killing them if they don’t give up on the land.

“We no longer sleep, we are restless and fearful for our lives; we call on President Museveni to come to our rescue but our lives are in danger,” Nalubega said.

Land grabbing is on the rise in many parts of the country and the grabbers do so with impunity despite President Museveni come out strong against the vice.
