Major General Leopold Kyanda, the Joint Chief of Staff, has underscored the critical need for safeguarding Uganda’s vital assets and strategic installations. His remarks come in light of the establishment of the Office of the Coordinator National Vital Assets and Strategic Installations, aiming to address vulnerabilities that could jeopardize the nation’s security.

Speaking during the assumption of office ceremony for Major General Moses Rwakitarate at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs Headquarters in Mbuya, Major General Kyanda emphasized the timeliness of this initiative. He highlighted the imperative to bolster security measures and bridge existing gaps that pose potential threats to the country.

Major General Kyanda elaborated on the significance of the newly established office, emphasizing its pivotal role in coordinating efforts between the government and private sectors. Given the UPDF’s role as the vanguard of the revolution, he stressed the suitability of a UPDF General to oversee this critical task. Major General Rwakitarate, entrusted with this responsibility, will lead a dedicated team tasked with enhancing security protocols and addressing any vulnerabilities.

These include government institutions such as Uganda Revenue Authority and National Identification Registration Authority, as well as vital sectors like oil and gas installations, electricity generation, transmission, and distribution networks. Additionally, the responsibilities extend to safeguarding bridges, dams, national parks, airports, health facilities, and security installations.
