Man Arrested for Stealing Kinyara Sugar Works Tractor

Police in the Albertine have arrested a 26-year-old man for allegedly stealing a tractor belonging to Kinyara Sugar Works.

The suspect has been identified as Dan Tumusiime, a resident of Hoima City. He was arrested on Sunday.

It is alleged that the suspect together with others still at large, two weeks ago, planned, connived, coordinated, and stole a tractor 9200 Mahindra type belonging to Kinyara Sugar Works Limited. The tractor was stolen from Kinyara in Masindi district.

Since then, the management of Kinyara Sugar Works Limited and the police have been tracking and hunting for the thugs.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police Spokesperson says, that after the matter was reported to the police, they swung into action and dispatched a team of flying squad operatives to track the suspects. 

He says, that on Sunday, they recovered the tractor from the Buliima trading center in Bwijanga sub-county in Masindi district and managed to arrest one suspect.

Hakiza says the arrested suspect together with others still at large was planning to transport the suspected stolen tractor to Arua district from where they would sell it.

The suspect was immediately whisked to the Masindi central police station where he is currently being detained as the hunt for his accomplices is ongoing.

Aldon Wulukamba, the communications manager at Kinyara Sugar Works Limited explains that, in the past three years, they have lost over ten tractors in the hands of some drivers who connive with thugs to still them.

He however says, some of the thugs after failing to execute business for the stolen tractors, abandon them either by the roadside or in the bush.
