President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has reinforced his call for Ugandans to generate wealth through deliberate engagement in commercial agriculture. In a televised address on Thursday night, he emphasized the importance of economic politics and wealth creation in his ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) government’s agenda. Museveni stressed the need for citizens to embrace wealth creation initiatives rather than succumbing to divisive politics or dependence.

Acknowledging his role as a wealth creator, President Museveni expressed his appreciation for Ugandans who patronize products like milk, beef, and bananas. However, he highlighted the limitations of the domestic market and emphasized the importance of accessing regional markets for sustainable economic growth. Speaking from State House Nakasero in Kampala, he underscored Uganda’s potential for success through the development and modernization of indigenous wealth, particularly through calculated commercial agriculture.

President Museveni delineated between extensive and intensive agriculture, advising landowners accordingly based on their land size. Extensive agriculture, suitable for large landowners, involves high-volume production of commodities like sugarcane and cotton. Conversely, intensive agriculture, ideal for smaller land sizes, focuses on high-value enterprises tailored to maximize income. He urged citizens to adopt suitable agricultural practices to harness the economic potential of their land.

Drawing from his own experience as an extensive farmer, President Museveni provided insights into optimizing cattle farming for increased profitability, as demonstrated at his Kisozi farm. He advocated for a hybrid approach that combines grazing with supplementary feeding to enhance productivity. Furthermore, he encouraged citizens to invest in dairy farming, citing the significant increase in milk production resulting from the adoption of Friesian cows in the cattle corridor.

President Museveni shared the transformative impact of his wealth creation initiatives on neighboring communities, particularly in Gomba where his Kisozi farm is located. He recounted efforts to uplift residents from poverty through education and enterprise development, highlighting the success stories of model farmers like Richard Nyakana and Minister Fred Byamukama. Museveni emphasized the importance of leaders’ roles in mobilizing communities and addressing poverty through practical solutions.
