NACOBA Celebrates Camaraderie and Athletic Excellence at Annual Sports Gala

On Friday evening, the MUBS arena was alight with excitement as the Namilyango College Old Boys’ Association (NACOBA) hosted its annual sports gala sponsored by Guinness.

The event saw three cohorts, the Dream Team (Class of 2003-2008), the Tyrants (Class of 2010 – 2015), and the Knights (Class of 2016-2022), emerge victorious in a display of athletic prowess and camaraderie.

The 14th edition of the gala brought together Namilyango OBs from different generations to celebrate the values of family, sportsmanship, and tradition that define the institution.

Featuring a diverse range of sports including soccer, rugby, basketball, chess, table tennis, athletics, relay races, sack race, tug of war, and scrabble, the event catered to the sporty souls among the alumni.

Andrew Mutono Kakooza, Vice President of NACOBA, highlighted the significance of the sports gala, emphasizing its role in rekindling the bonds of brotherhood among the Namilyango family.

“The NACOBA Sports Gala is not just your ordinary sporting event. It’s a reunion of the Namilyango family,” he remarked, underscoring the importance of shared experiences and mutual support among the alumni.

Roy Tumwizere, Guinness Brand Manager, expressed pride in the partnership with NACOBA, lauding the event as a testament to the shared love for sport and camaraderie among the old boys.

He noted Guinness’ commitment to supporting various Old Boys Leagues, including Namilyango, and highlighted the brand’s role in fostering a sense of community and celebration.

Entertainment was not in short supply at the gala, with the Double Black Band setting the stage alive with a medley of timeless hits that kept the crowd grooving late into the night.

The event succeeded in celebrating athletic achievements while providing a platform for old boys to connect and reminisce.

Established in 1902, Namilyango College has earned a reputation as one of Uganda’s top secondary schools, excelling not only academically but also in the sporting arena.

The annual sports gala serves as a testament to the institution’s rich legacy and its ongoing contributions to the development of Ugandan citizens.
