Nicki Minaj Reflects on Emotional Last Conversation with Late Father

Amid the success of her latest project, the Trinidadian MC took a poignant moment to reflect on her late father, Robert Maraj, who tragically lost his life in a hit-and-run in 2021.

During the interview, Minaj shared poignant thoughts and remarks about her father, recalling their final conversation just hours before his untimely death. The 41-year-old artist recounted a moment when she was rocking her baby in the rocking chair, usually avoiding phone calls during such times. However, a unique intuition prompted her to answer the call from her father.

“One day, I was rocking the baby in the rocking chair in his room,” Minaj shared. “I do not normally even have the phone on me when I’m rocking him. Because at that time, I was mad strict… But anyway, that day, as I’m rocking him, the phone rings. I look down, I see it’s my father, I normally would not have picked up, I promise you. I would’ve said, ‘OK,’ because I don’t like to be on the phone with the baby there. But something said, ‘Pick up the phone.’”

Minaj continued to describe the happiness in her father’s voice during the call, expressing his eagerness to visit and help her in California. The emotional recounting of their last conversation became even more poignant as Minaj shared the heartbreaking turn of events that unfolded later that night.

“And then we went to bed and sometime late while we were all asleep, the phone rang,” she concluded. “It was my mother telling me that my father was in an accident and that she didn’t know what was gonna happen and she would call me back. And then everything started spinning, like literally.” The reflective moment in the interview offered a glimpse into Minaj’s journey of healing and honoring her late father.
