The Ankole Times | Dokolo, (UG): During the Dokolo NRM Expanded District Conference held in Alokiri Cell, Southern Ward, Dokolo Town Council, the Deputy Secretary-General of the NRM party secretariat, Honorable Rosemary Namayanja, addressed NRM delegates on Saturday. She informed the delegates that Secretary-General Richard Todwong was currently out of the country on assignment by H.E. Gen. Yoweri Museveni Kaguta, the President of Uganda.

Namayanja emphasized the President’s support for the NRM flag bearer, stating, “I was a member of parliament for 15 years, and everything the district receives starts with the NRM party caucus.” She further highlighted the importance of electricity in the socio-economic transformation, underlining its centrality.

Opio Obote, Chairperson of NRM Dokolo Town Council, urged the Secretary-General to prevent a repeat of the incidents witnessed during the Oyam North By-election in the upcoming Dokolo MP by-election. He noted disparities in the allocation of resources, citing an instance involving Molly Kia Abang, who had been promised a position as RDC by the President but was not deployed. Obote advocated for Kia’s consideration this time, especially after she opted out and stepped down in favor of Adongo Janet, the NRM flag bearer.

“We move together as a force with one purpose to have all three MPs under NRM 100 percent,” stated Obote, emphasizing unity and support for the NRM flag bearer in Dokolo.

The Dokolo by-election campaign is set to officially commence on March 14, 2024, with voting scheduled for March 21, 2024. Namayanja urged unity, stating, “When one of us loses, we all lose.”

NRM’s Sseninde Nsubuga has been active in Dokolo district, canvassing support and addressing electoral issues at both district and sub-county levels. With preparations underway, NRM anticipates a successful outcome in the Dokolo Woman MP by-election.

While three independent candidates, though politically strong, are not officially counted as NRM candidates, the party recognizes the need for internal cohesion. Thus, a task force comprising the RDC, ONC Prossy Langol, NRM secretariat, and mainstream NRM members in the district has been formed to address challenges and ensure full support for the flag bearer.

In a press briefing held at Dokolo Technical Institute on Saturday morning, Dokolo RDC Akech Barbra confirmed her leadership of the task force supporting the Dokolo NRM flag bearer.

Addressing concerns such as the one million shilling allocation issue and ensuring support for NRM councilors, the party aims to overcome obstacles and emerge victorious in the upcoming election.
