Joint Security Forces are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a National Unity Platform (NUP) party mobilizer in an ambush targeting cattle rustlers in the Kaabong district. The incident occurred on Saturday at approximately 11:15 p.m. in Kaabong Town Council.

Reportedly, the joint security forces had received intelligence regarding armed Karamojong warriors who had raided cows in the Kakamar-protected kraal. Acting on this intelligence, the security forces promptly set up ambushes at potential exit points frequently used by the raiders in the area.

Unfortunately, during one such ambush at Kapilan Bar East, a resident identified as Ambrose Lochoto, a 30-year-old male adult and NUP mobilizer in the Kaabong district, inadvertently walked into the ambush and was gunned down by the security forces.

Michael Longole, the Mt Moroto Regional Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident, stating that the deceased was shot dead at midnight during the ambush. Longole further added that investigations have been initiated to determine the circumstances surrounding the death of Lochoto. “We regret this unfortunate incident, the motive of his late movement is yet to be established as investigations are ongoing,” Longole said. He urged the public to avoid night movements, especially in the incident-prone areas. Security transported the deceased’s body to Kaabong Hospital for a post-mortem examination as part of the ongoing investigation.
