During the 13th Tarehe Sita Thanksgiving Service, commemorating 43 years of blessings upon the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and the nation of Uganda, Pastor Patience Museveni Rwabwogo, the First Daughter and Senior Pastor at the Covenant Nations Church, delivered an address highlighting the journey of the UPDF and its correlation with Uganda’s journey as a nation.

Expressing her gratitude for the invitation extended by the Chief of Defence Forces and Mrs. Edith Nsaba Buturo, Pastor Patience shared her initial apprehension as she had never addressed the military before. However, after seeking guidance through prayer, she felt led to accept the invitation.

Drawing from Psalm 116:2, which reflects on gratitude towards God for His blessings, Pastor Patience emphasized the importance of acknowledging and appreciating the journey of the UPDF and Uganda over the past 43 years.

Reflecting on the early days of the UPDF, Pastor Patience recalled the revolutionary spirit of the National Resistance Army and its precursor, the National Resistance Movement. Despite lacking resources, the young soldiers demonstrated remarkable bravery, loyalty, and integrity in their service to the nation.

As Pastor Patience reminisced about her childhood experiences alongside soldiers, she underscored the simplicity and humility that characterized the foundation of the UPDF. She highlighted the importance of values such as sacrifice, loyalty, and service above self, which guided the early soldiers in their quest for liberation.

Transitioning to the present, Pastor Patience acknowledged the transformation of the UPDF into a highly professional and internationally respected force. She praised the UPDF’s role in regional peacekeeping missions, emphasizing Uganda’s redemptive purpose as a missionary nation.

Referencing biblical parallels, Pastor Patience drew connections between the spiritual significance of Uganda’s journey and the challenges faced during times of transition. She emphasized the importance of discerning spiritual seasons and contending for God’s purposes through prayer and adherence to foundational values.

Citing historical and biblical examples, Pastor Patience urged the nation and the UPDF to remain steadfast in their commitment to God-given principles. She cautioned against complacency and urged a return to the foundational values that propelled Uganda and the UPDF to their current stature.

In closing, Pastor Patience called for repentance and dedication to God’s will, believing that divine alignment with God’s purposes would secure a prosperous future for Uganda and the UPDF.
