The Pilsner Uganda Premier League (UPL) nominees for the month of February, recognizing outstanding players and coaches who left their mark on the pitch, have been unveiled.

In the players’ category, Denis Omedi of Kitara FC, Patrick Kakande of SC Villa, and Isaac Wagoina of Express FC emerged as the frontrunners for their exceptional performances on the field.

Omedi’s prolific goal-scoring spree included five goals in four matches for Kitara FC, including a remarkable hat-trick against UPDF FC and a goal each against Wakiso and KCCA. He got two player of the match accolades against UPDF and Wakiso.

Kakande showcased his attacking prowess with three goals in two games for SC Villa against Maroons (2) and Kitara (1), earning the Player of the Match accolade in each fixture.

Wagoina’s contributions, including two crucial goals (KCC and Bright Stars) and an assist against UPDF, earning a player of the match in the latter.

In the coaches’ category, David Obua of URA FC, Hussein Mbalangu of NEC FC, and Brian Ssenyondo of Kitara FC are the three contenders.

Ssenyondo’s adept leadership saw Kitara FC ascend to the top of the league table with an impressive tally of 10 points out of a possible 12. Under his guidance, Kitara FC secured victories against UPDF FC, KCCA FC, and Wakiso Giants FC, with a draw against SC Villa.

Obua steered URA FC to three impressive victories against Gaddafi FC, UPDF FC, and Maroons FC, securing nine out of a possible 12 points. Despite a road loss to Wakiso Giants, Obua’s strategic guidance kept URA FC firmly in contention for upper echelons of the table.

Mbalangu, at the helm of NEC FC, clinched two wins against Busoga United FC and Mbarara City FC, along with a draw against UPDF FC. Despite a setback against KCCA FC, Mbalangu’s side managed to amass seven points from four fixtures.

The winners in both categories will each receive Sh1m and an accolade.
