Police Arrests Key Suspect in Rugby Players Murder


Kampala– Police working together with other sister agencies on Tuesday arrested two additional suspects in relation to murder of Rugby Cranes Player Sydney Gongodyo.

Gongodyo was murdered last week, in a mob action suspected to have been conducted by a group of boda boda riders in Ntinda who falsely accused him of robbing a woman’s hand bag.
According to Recheal Kawala, Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, the suspects have been identified as Mugwiisa Obed and Owino Joseph, a security guard.
“Mugwiisa Obed was captured in video footage wearing a yellow T-shirt and carrying a large log during the incident. During interrogation, he led investigators to a local laundry (dobbi) where he had taken the yellow T-shirt he was seen wearing on the day of the attack.”
That the garment was subsequently recovered as part of the ongoing investigations.
“Efforts are ongoing to identify, trace, and apprehend other individuals believed to have participated in the incident.”
This arrest has increased the total number of suspects in Police custody to ten (10) as further investigations into the alleged mob killing continue.
