As Muslims worldwide prepare to observe the holy month of Ramadan, the police have issued safety and security guidelines to ensure peaceful observance during this significant period of spiritual reflection and devotion. Ramadan, falling on the eighth month of the Muslim calendar, spans 30 days and constitutes one of the five pillars of Islam, alongside professions of faith, prayers, almsgiving, and pilgrimage.

During Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn until sunset and engage in communal prayers, predominantly held at mosques. The commencement of Ramadan was marked on March 11, following the sighting of the crescent moon, officially announced by a committee in Saudi Arabia.

Maj Gen Tumisiime Katsigazi, the Deputy Inspector General of Police, emphasized the importance of peace, tolerance, forgiveness, compassion, and goodwill during Ramadan. He called upon Muslims and the general public to foster harmony and understanding throughout the month.

Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson, highlighted the involvement of territorial commanders in fasting alongside Muslims to gain a deeper understanding of the significance of Ramadan. Additionally, he urged Muslims and the public to prioritize safety and security, collaborating with Muslim leaders to address any concerns related to crime and threats.

To bolster security during Ramadan, the police have established patrol routes around all Muslim centers, aiming to ensure the safety of worshippers and prevent any potential security risks.

This Ramadan marks the first time Muslims are fasting in a free environment since 2020, without restrictions imposed by the coronavirus pandemic. The month offers Muslims an opportunity to seek Allah’s mercy, forgiveness, and paradise through fasting and prayers.
