President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, alongside First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Kataha Museveni, hosted a gathering of residents from Kiruhura and Kazo Districts at their residence in Rwakitura on Monday. This gathering followed a field visit to Mr. Richard Nyakana’s model farm in Rwengaju, Fort Portal.

During the engagement, residents lauded President Museveni for advocating participation in the monetary economy.

Chairperson of the group, Ms. Alice Nabaasa, expressed gratitude, stating, “Your Excellency, thank you for awakening us and illuminating the path towards prosperity.”

The group, initially meeting the President at his farm in Kisozi, Gomba District in February, committed to join efforts in mobilizing Ugandans towards wealth creation through commercial agriculture, emphasizing the concept of “ekibaro.”

President Museveni praised the group for embracing his advice and encouraged them to adopt commercial agriculture practices with a focus on high-yielding enterprises, citing Mr. Nyakana’s success. He emphasized diversification into dairy farming, coffee cultivation, poultry farming, fish farming, and food crops for optimal returns.

To further support agricultural development, President Museveni pledged to establish a demonstration farm akin to Mr. Nyakana’s at Nshaara government ranch, benefiting the Western region and the nation. Additionally, he committed to providing silage choppers to every parish and tractors to every Sub County in the districts to facilitate farming activities.

In addressing the issue of land fragmentation, President Museveni cautioned against its detrimental effects and advocated for property sharing among beneficiaries rather than physical division, promoting the formation of associations for equitable resource distribution.

Furthermore, President Museveni reiterated the importance of leaders prioritizing poverty alleviation over political engagements, likening leaders to doctors tasked with identifying and addressing constituents’ challenges.

First Lady Maama Janet Museveni commended the group for their receptiveness to the President’s guidance, urging them to intensify their efforts towards improving livelihoods through wealth creation.

The meeting saw the attendance of several dignitaries including Hon. Wilson Kajwengye, Hon. Jovanice Rwenduru, Hon. Herbert Tayebwa, Hon. Dan Kimosho, Hon. Jennifer Muheesi, Dan Mukago Rutetebya, and Rev. Samuel Mugisha Katugunda, among others.
