Renowned educationist and transformational leader Lawrence Muganga has been honoured with the Global Impact Award by Afroglobal Television in recognition of his outstanding contribution to education, leadership, and community transformation across Africa.
The award was presented in Kampala by Moses A. Mawa, Chairman and CEO of Silver Trust Media, the Transformation Institute for Leadership and Innovation, and Afroglobal Television.
While presenting the award, Mawa described Prof Muganga as a beacon of hope whose work continues to inspire change through education.
“I want to take this opportunity to thank you so much, Professor Muganga. You are such a light in a dark world. Education is one of the most important instruments that brings about transformation. Once people are enlightened, they can make an impact in other areas of life as well,” Mawa said.
He noted that Afroglobal Television, one of the largest television networks serving people of African descent in Canada and internationally, selected Prof Muganga for the award because of his remarkable impact on education and society.
“You received the Global Impact Award from Afroglobal Television because of your incredible work. I want to take this opportunity to thank the Almighty and, of course, congratulate you on this achievement,” he added.
Receiving the award, Prof Muganga expressed gratitude to Afroglobal Television for recognizing achievements taking place on the African continent and highlighted the important role played by Africans in the diaspora in driving development back home.
“I’m really grateful to Afroglobal Television for granting me this award all the way from Canada and recognizing that in Africa there is so much we can do and so much we have already done,” Muganga said.
He pointed to Mawa’s own success in building and managing an international television network in Canada as an example of the expertise and experience that members of the African diaspora can bring to the continent.
“Just imagine what he can do if he started that very television network here in Uganda. There is a particular exposure, experience, skills and competencies that we bring to our country. This is home,” he remarked.
Muganga said he was encouraged that organizations beyond Africa’s borders are paying attention to the positive developments taking place across the continent and celebrating individuals who are making meaningful contributions to their communities.
“I’m delighted that Afroglobal Television sees what is happening in Uganda and on the African continent and singles out people who are performers and bringing impact to their communities. It is not something I take for granted,” he said.
He further commended Mawa for travelling to Uganda to personally present the award, describing the gesture as a demonstration of commitment to recognizing African excellence.
“I’m glad that you took the trouble to come all the way to Uganda for me. Congratulations and thank you. You’ve done so very well. God bless you,” Muganga said.
The Global Impact Award recognizes individuals whose work has created lasting change in areas such as education, leadership, innovation, and community development. For Prof Muganga, the honour adds to a growing list of accolades acknowledging his efforts to transform education and empower future generations across Africa.
