In a tightly contested match at Wankulukuku Stadium, SC Villa and Vipers played out a goalless draw, intensifying this season’s title race in the Ugandan league.

Despite numerous opportunities for both sides, neither could find the back of the net, leaving the outcome hanging in the balance.

The hosts, SC Villa, looked the better side for extended stretches of the game in front of their fervent home crowd but failed to convert their chances into goals.

Patrick Jonah Kakande came closest to breaking the deadlock but squandered a golden opportunity, firing over the bar after a skillful play by Abasi Kyeyune who had left Vipers defender Hillary Mukundane beaten at the byline.

Goalkeeper Jack Komakech also denied Villa a win when he thwarted Umar Lutalo’s free-kick moments later on.

Substitute Yunus Sentamu had a clear chance to clinch victory for Vipers but failed to capitalize on a precise cross from Milton Karisa.

Despite the stalemate, the match was a spectacle for fans, with even the Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, in attendance to witness the action.

With the draw, defending champions Vipers have moved to third place with 42 points, trailing leaders Kitara by two points. SC Villa sits closely behind in fourth place with 41 points, setting the stage for a thrilling title race.

It’s strong to note that both SC Villa and Vipers have played a game fewer than Kitara, adding further intrigue to the league battle.

The top of the table remains tightly contested, with BUL in second place with 43 points and NEC in fifth with 40 points, highlighting the fierce competition among the top five teams vying for league glory.
