A secondary school head teacher in Kassanda District finds himself in police custody, facing charges of aggravated defilement. The suspect, a resident of Wakayiba Trading Centre in Kalwana Sub County, stands accused of defiling a 17-year-old former student from Brain Star Secondary School, as confirmed by Wamala Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Racheal Kawala.

According to SP Kawala, the victim dropped out of school after the alleged incident in August 2023, during which she was reportedly impregnated by the head teacher. Following a tip-off from concerned residents on February 26, 2024, detectives visited the victim’s home and found her heavily pregnant. Subsequently, a case of aggravated defilement was opened, marked as Kassanda CRB. 151/2024, and the victim underwent a medical examination, facilitated by Police Form 3A.

The suspect was promptly arrested and is presently held at Kassanda Central Police Station awaiting further legal proceedings. The case file will be forwarded to the Resident State Attorney (RSA) for review and legal guidance.

Statistics from the recently released Police Crime Annual Report reveal a concerning trend in cases of aggravated defilement. In 2023, a total of 3,846 cases were reported nationwide, reflecting a 6.2% increase from the previous year’s statistics.
