“It is important to clarify that the use of the national flag is regulated by law under the National Flag and Armorial Ensigns Act, which sets out what is permitted and what is not.” Remarked Kituuma Rusoke, Police Spokesperson during weekly press briefing.

He added, that, anyone wishing to use the flag requires prior permission from the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs.

“The law specifically prohibits any person from using the national flag or armorial ensigns in connection with any business, trade, calling or profession, or in any way that may mislead the public into believing that such use is officially authorised, without the Minister’s consent.”

However, this order has faced a lot of criticism from various members of the public especially political figures.

This has come at a time when the National Unity Platform Presidential Candidate, Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi wine has popularized the National flag especially at all his rallies.
