Shaban Scores Brace As KCCA Rout Mbarara City

Shaban Muhammad scored twice as KCCA registered a commanding 4-0 win over Mbarara City to register their 12th victory of the 2023/24 Uganda Premier League (UPL) season.

The Kasasiro Boys have now reclaimed their sixth position on the 16-team table, just hours after they had been displaced to seventh by Maroons who had won their game against Busoga United 3-0 earlier on in the day.

KCCA (6th) and Maroons (7th) are both on 38 points, but the former boast of a superior (+3) goal difference.

At Lugogo, midfielder Ashraf Mugume opened the scoring after quarter an hour played, curling a freekick past Mbarara City custodian Ronald Mutebi to put the hosts ahead in the 15th minute.

Close to half an hour of action, Muhammad Shaban scored his first of the day to double KCCA’s advantage, and also go joint top on the 2023/24 season’s top scorers’ chart with 13 goals, alongside Bright Stars’ Nelson Ssenkatuka.

Shaban converted from the spot in the 29th minute, after Etienne Katenga was fouled in the opponent’s box by Innocent Wafula.

Shaban completed his brace in the 49th minute, making it three for KCCA, and going top of the goal-scorers’ chart with 14 goals.

In the 53rd minute of the game, Katenga, assisted by Arafat Usama scored his first goal of the night to make it 4-0 in favor of KCCA.

The Kasasiro Boys, who have also lost nine times and drawn twice so far this season are just three points shy of top four. SC Villa in fourth position have 41 points.
