Three people have been charged with threatening violence against Ronald Bakak, Kabale Deputy Resident District Commissioner.   They are Hafisa Burera, Vastina Mukakigeri, and Charles Swaib Nyamurwana all residents of Nyabikoni in Central Division, Kabale Municipality.

It is alleged that on Tuesday while at Bakak’s offices at Kabale district headquarters located at Makanga Hill, Central division, Kabale Municipality, Burera, Mukakigeri, and Nyamurwana threatened to assault Bakak. They had gone to settle land wrangles with a section of their relatives led by Agnes Mukamanzi and Moses Kewell of the same residence.

However, during the mediation process, Burera, Mukakigeri, and Nyamurwana sharply disagreed with Mukamazi’s faction to the extent of fighting.  Bakak says that he advised them to go home and return when they were calm.

However, this angered Burera, Mukakigeri, and Nyamurwana who attempted to assault Bakak.

Appearing before Kabale Chief Magistrates Court on Thursday, the three were charged with threatening violence contrary to section 81 (a) of the Penal Code Act.

State prosecutor Julie Najjunju asked the court to proceed with the hearing of the case since police investigations are complete.  But their lawyer Anthony Aryanyijuka of Beitwenda and Company Advocates asked for bail saying they were prepared for the hearing.

He also applied for bail for the accused.  Derrick Byamugisha, Kabale Chief Magistrate released the accused on 2 million Shillings non-cash bail and 5 million Shillings not cash to their sureties.

Byamugisha adjourned the case until July 22, for further hearing.
