Three Members of Parliament spent Monday night in police cells after being detained over their allegedly involvement in corruption.

The three legislators including Yusuf Mutembuli( Bunyole East constituency), Cissy Namujju( Lwengo Woman MP) and Paul Akamba( Busiki County) all leaning to the ruling NRM Party were detained after being interrogated by detectives at the Criminal Investigations Directorate headquarters in Kibuli for most of Monday.

Following their interrogations, the legislators were later handed over to Kira division police station for safe custody where they spent a night.

Earlier last week, orders had been given by the CID director to the in charge of Kira division police to prepare the cells for “ high profile persons” who would any time be taken for safe custody.

This came to pass on Monday.

It is expected that the trio will be taken to the Anti Corruption Court to answer several charges.

President Museveni last week said he had got useful information regarding a racket involving Ministry of Finance officials and others at parliament to take kickbacks.

“I have been hearing stories that there is racket from ministry of finance to parliament. I have been hearing of it but now I have proof. Their time is up. I have been hearing that from ministry of finance, they arrange with accounting officers of ministries to come to parliament to provide certain funds provided they take a share,” Museveni said.

“I have been getting good information about corrupt actors among the public servants but also among the political actors. With firm evidence, I will crush these traitors. Public servants and political leaders that steal government money are corrupt and will be crushed.”
