0

Tom Ikara is the latest winner of the Uganda Premier League (UPL) Golden Glove award, having kept 12 clean sheets to help BUL finish in the top three of the 2023/24 season.

Towards the final bend, it seemed so possible that the Golden Glove award would be shared between two goalkeepers – Ikara and Maroons’ Hannington Ssebwalunyo went toe to toe until the last day of the season.

Both goalkeepers, going into the last game were tied on eleven clean-sheets, and both started in goal for their respective teams.

Ssebwalunyo, however, fell short by just one clean-sheet, having conceded a goal as the Prison Warders lost 1-0 to KCCA in Luzira.

Ikara’s award-winning clean-sheet came on the last day of the season; the custodian conceded no goal as BUL beat Busoga 3-0 to finish in the third place on the 16-team UPL table.

His first had come against Bright Stars, when BUL won by a goal to nothing at Kavumba.

In between there, the goalkeeper also kept seven clean-sheets at home as BUL beat KCCA 1-0, Maroons 3-0, Busoga 1-0, Express 2-0, Vipers 1-0 and Wakiso Giants 3-0 in Jinja respectively.

He kept three more clean-sheets away from home, as BUL won 3-0 against Wakiso Giants at Kavumba, and the goalless stalemates against KCCA at Lugogo and Maroons in Luzira respectively.
