Express FC will embark on a crucial Stanbic Uganda Cup round of 16 match against BUL this Sunday amidst uncertainty following the resignation of head coach Alex Isabirye.

Isabirye announced his departure on March 1, citing a lack of support from the club’s bosses as the reason for his decision.

The departure of Isabirye, who led Vipers to Uganda Cup victory last year, leaves Express FC in a challenging position.

Hassan Mubiru will assume temporary coaching responsibilities on an interim basis until the club issues an official communication regarding a permanent replacement.

Express FC will also face BUL without key players Andrew Kawooya, Eddy Ssebandeke, and Alpha Ssali, although Ramsey Kawooya returns to bolster the squad.

The absence of Isabirye, who had cultivated a strong rapport with the players, poses a significant setback for the team as they prepare for the crucial cup tie.

Meanwhile, BUL, currently sitting second in the league, will view the match as an opportunity to capitalize on Express FC’s vulnerabilities.

With players such as Reagan Kalyowa, Douglas Muganga, and Nicholas Mwere returning to the squad, BUL aims to maintain their momentum in both the league and cup competitions.

In their previous league encounter earlier this season, BUL held Express FC to a 1-1 draw at Wankulukuku, despite finishing the game with nine players following the dismissals of Benon Tahomera and Walter Ochora.

Coach Abbey Bogere Kikomeko confirmed that BUL will be without Kalyowa and Muganga due to injury, while Hillary Onek will miss the clash due to accumulated yellow cards.
