NEC powered their way into the quarterfinals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup, eliminating Busoga United in a closely contested encounter in a thrilling match at the Kakindu Stadium in Jinja.

The lone goal of the game came from Joseph Dhata, whose strike in the 40th minute proved decisive in securing NEC’s advancement.

Dhata seized the opportunity after a defensive mix-up to slot the ball past the Busoga United goalkeeper.

Despite earlier attempts, including a long-range effort that sailed over the crossbar, Dhata’s persistence paid off, ultimately securing victory for NEC.

The match marked the end of the road for Busoga United, who were playing their first game since the departure of coach Peter Onen.

Despite their efforts, they were unable to break through NEC’s defense and find an equalizer, resulting in their elimination from the competition.

With this victory, NEC, who previously defeated Acholi United in the round of 32, now joins the likes of Pajule Lions, Kitara, BUL, Police, and KCCA in the quarterfinals.
