Uganda Cup: Pakwach Young Stars Book Last Quarterfinal Slot

West Nile Regional League League side Pakwach Young Stars claimed the last spot in the 2023/24 Stanbic Uganda Cup quarterfinals away in Masindi after defeating Dove FC at their own backyard.

Pakwach Young Stars goalkeeper Ronald Jakisa was the hero of the day, as he kept out three Doves’ penalties to help his side win 7-6 in the post match shoot-out after a goalless draw in 90 minutes.

The goalkeeper also scored one, plus captain Vivian Onen, Otongiri, Jakisa Godwin, Brian Okethwengu, Parity Rwothomio and Orwaka who all converted theirs to help the Westnile side go all the way to the League Cup quarterfinals, for their first time ever!

Pakwach Young Stars eliminated Big League side Booma at the round of 64, before ousting Uganda Premier League club Wakiso Giants at the round of 32, and finally beating Dove at the round of 16 to be part of the last eight teams in the competition.

Meanwhile, another third division side, Pajule Lions from the Northern Regional League also qualified (first) to the Uganda Cup quarterfinals after they defeated Young Simba 1-0 in the round of 16 tie played in Pader District.

Favorable enough for Pajule Lions, they have been hosting all their matches in the competition, playing all their games at home (Pajule Primary School Grounds, Pader) since round of 64 to the round of 16.

In Pader is where Pajule Lions eliminated UPDF (1-0) at the round of 64, before beating Nsambya 2-0 at the round of 32 and sending out Young Simba at the round of 16.

Pajule Lions, like Pakwach Youngsters will now Join Big League side Police, and five UPL clubs KCCA, Vipers, BUL, Kitara and NEC in the quarter-finals.
